As the principal and founding director of babyballet Lanarkshire Central, I don’t get to teach as much as I used to, but one of my favourite parts of my role is supporting our teachers through their training. At the end of their 6–8 week programme with the wonderful Miss Carrie, I get to observe their final teaching assessment. And every single time, my heart melts a little, especially when it’s a babyballet Tots class.

Whether it’s classes in Coatbridge, Cambuslang, or Baillieston, you’ll find the same warmth, laughter, and community spirit. Here are five reasons why this class, for our tiniest dancers aged 6–18 months, will always have my heart.

1. The Giggles and Squeals

There’s nothing quite like the sound of pure joy that fills the room during a Tots class. The giggles, the squeals, the little claps, it’s contagious! You can’t help but smile watching these tiny dancers discover the magic of movement for the first time.

2. The Friendships Between Grownups

I love hearing the light chatter between parents and carers as new friendships begin to form. Eight years on, I’m still great friends with my first “mum friend”, and it’s so special to see those same bonds starting in our classes.

3. The Little Celebrations

Every milestone is worth celebrating, a first step, a baby mirroring the teacher, or even a parent proudly sharing that their little one finally slept for more than three hours! These moments remind me that babyballet is about so much more than dance.

4. The Love Between Child and Grownup

You can see it in their smiles, their eyes, their whole faces lighting up. The connection between a baby and their grownup during class is pure love in motion.

5. The Community Spirit

The chatting, the sharing, the laughter, it’s what makes babyballet feel like family. Getting to know our families and watching them grow together is one of the greatest joys of all.

babyballet Tots isn’t just a class, it’s a community. It’s a place where babies take their first steps into the world of dance, and grownups find friendship, laughter, and support.
